Miles Loretta served as chairman of the product safety committee
for a major US manufacturer of machine tools. Led all new product
safety audits, investigated accidents, reviewed and approved all
safety signage.
He chairs an ANSI safety standard committee
which wrote a new US safety standard for CNC machining centers.
HAS (Hazard Analysis System) is one of the
tools used to help resolve product safety issues by quantitatively
comparing alternate solutions. Miles is proficient in its use
and has taught over 100 employees how to utilize this powerful
tool.
Common rules for resolving safety issues:
- Design out the hazard, if that’s not possible,
- Design a safety interlock, if that’s not possible,
- Warn about the hazard.
